H-O-T Looks from the Caulfield Racing Carnival

Neutrals and bold purples seem to be the look of the moment for the races this year if these pics from the Caulfield Racing Carnival are anything to go by… though there also seems to be some sensible dressing to suit the weather conditions on the day. These ladies have taken on the glam look with satin fabrics and tailored draping.

Boys… Suit up and have some fun!

Winners! Chadstone Fashion Stakes Youthful Fashionistas

 Top 3
Winner: Kelly Odell from Glenhaven, NSW

Despite precarious weather conditions last Saturday, 16 October, the Caulfield Cup led the racing carnival fashion stakes with the Chadstone Fashion Stakes Youthful Fashionistas competition.

This new addition to the fashion line up proved very popular with many great contenders. But, only one girl could win… And that was Kelly Odell from Glenhaven, NSW.

The first runner up was Ashlea Harvey from Marsden in QLD. Second runner up was Natalie Bikicki, from Macedon, VIC.

Well done girls!

H-O-T News: Positive Posters 2010 finalists announced (#ptw)

Hailey McKenzie, Australia
Jesse Mallon, Australia
 Tim Swainson, Thailand
(Couldn’t resist including this one based on my injuries this year!)
Carlo Mussett, Australia

Whilst reading my latest newsletter from Desktop mag, I came across the Positive Poster 2010 finalists. As you know, I’m a big fan on the promotion of positivity, so I am totally loving the concept behind this competition.

Basically, graphic designer Nick Hallam founded Positive Posters in 2009 with the aim to plaster prominent cities like Melbourne with positive messages. Soon the concept turned into a competition for graphic designers and artists, and is run annually between July and October.

Designers are given a brief which they need to respond to and finalists are then selected, and judged by an international panel of judges (including Melbourne’s very own David Pidgeon and Michaela Webb). They then run an exhibition for all to see and soak up that creativity and positivity. Winners will be announced 12 October 2010 at the exhibition held at No Vacancy Gallery.
The lucky winner then has 4000 copies of their poster plastered all over the streets of Melbourne. I’d love to get my hands on one of those!

This year’s brief is based on an interpretation of Benjamin Franklin’s famous glass half full quote, “I haven’t failed; I’ve had 10,000 ideas that didn’t work.”
