Max the fashionista

My cat, Maximus loves fashion and like me he’s a fan of anything Kate Moss puts her personal sense of style to… Here he is acknowledging the awesomeness that is Hunter!
Hunter Wellington boots have been around for ages, but it’s only since Kate made them her festival staple that they made their mark in the fashion world.

They’re great for festivals and outdoor concerts where the elements are prone to change. I bought mine for trekking around at the snow. I hear that the girls in London wear them the way we where our Havianas, for getting around comfortably and then changing into heals.
Whatever your excuse, they’re super cool and comfy, come in a range of colours and patterns, and there’s even a Jimmy Choo collaboration! Slip into some now and splash in some puddles as if you were five again.

Tomorrow is already here thanks to Sass and Bide

So excited about Sass & Bide‘s latest collection, Tomorrow The Great.

The girls have taken a slight shift away from the heavy focus on hardware we’ve seen of late (which might I say I love love love) and embraced a strong contrast of blacks and whites.

The collection uses a mixture of stripes and patterns – combined with our fave hardware (don’t worry it’s still there) and touches of lace and sheer blacks.

These pieces will be great mixed and matched with previous collections, or with a base outfit of black and white.

I am totally in love with the tuxedo style City of Love jacket, whilst my friend Silvia loves the capelets which easily work with either day or night dressing.

What’s your favourite piece?

Happy Birthday to The Outnet!!

It’s hard to believe it’s only been a year since The Outnet graced our online presence with fabulous bargains on designer labels. In this time the Net-A-Porter outlet spin-off has allowed us to pick up the likes of Halston, Balmain and Pucci for a fraction of the retail price.

House of Turtle would like to say thanks to The Outnet – you rock our world… and of course, Happy Birthday! Looking forward to many more years ahead.

Maximise the Maxi Dress

It’s no secret that I am a massive fan of Sass & Bide. I love their style, the ability to mix and match their clothes, and the different ways you can play around with them.

Take for example the maxi dress. As a shortie (152cm to be exact), maxi dresses are not something I thought I could, or would, ever wear. However, the fab girls at Sass & Bide showed me that this was not the case. And now, they’re one of my favourite summer staples to experiment with.

Sure Sass & Bide‘s dresses have ties, buttons and removable bits so you can make them shorter or change the look, but the principle can be applied to dresses from other designers. For example, simply knot both sides of the dress and voila, a long dress becomes shorter and more wearable (and no tripping over the dress on the escalator).

Another thing I have discovered is that it’s really easy to change the look of a maxi dress by wearing a plain black or white tee, or singlet, over the top and knotting it at the side. Alternatively, a loose (but short) light knit looks great too for those slightly cooler nights. Or, throw a denim vest over the top for a more casual look.

I managed to wear the same maxi dress three times in one week (I have no qualms wearing something repeatedly) – at the races, a mag launch and to the pub by applying this principle.

I also love wearing my short cowboy boots with a maxi dress. It gives a completely different look to sandals or heels.

The main rules are to break the rules… experiment, have fun and don’t be afraid to take risks.
