PS. Things have admittedly been quiet of late. I have been quite unwell and spent the last week in hospital. On the mend now, so House of Turtle will be back on track very soon. Don’t leave me dear readers, I have not forgotten you. xox

Spring has sprung… And with it comes warmer days, lighter dressing and outdoor socialising. That means, it’s time to update your wardrobe… and your winter habits.

Here’s some essential tips for Spring:
1. Move away from the black! Whilst we love it, it starts to look a bit heavy at this time of year. Update your wardrobe with oranges and peaches – the ‘It’ colour of the season. And, if you must wear black (like me) – pick some key pieces and mix them up
2. Make sure you wear SPF everyday and carry a hat and sunnies with you at all times. Be smart, opt for fake tan instead of a real one
3. Ditch the red wine. If you’re anything like me, this is also hayfever season. The histamines in wine are only going to make that worse. Order a cocktail instead. I love Japanese Slippers – which is made from equal parts Midori, lemon juice and Triple Sec. Mix them together with some ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake shake shake – and pour into a cocktail glass. Yum!
4. Update your scent – opt for something light and fresh. Try something with citrus notes, like Annick Goutal Eau d’Hadrien which is made up of Sicilian lemon, citron, grapefruit and cypress
5. Finally, get out and about – the sun is shining, the air is crisp… Enjoy!

Competition Update: And the winner is… Distressed Denim

House of Turtle recently ran a competition for readers to win a prize pack including a fabulous range of new L’Oreal Paris Cosmetics and a Chanel wide-angled mirror and Noir Ceramic.

The challenge for entrants was to tell us their fave items for spring. There were some great entries, which made it a tough job for the judges to choose the winner.

That said, the fabulous prize goes to Jamie for her inspiring entry, which even included a fully styled look via Polyvore. One hundred points for going the extra mile!

Here’s Jamie’s entry:
“My favorite? Has to be distressed denim, particularly the heavily distressed Siwy Hannah in Tempest. And with that must, MUST come a bit of a glam look.

It was hard for me to really try to explain it, so I wanted a visual. Polyvore was perfect.

And, the Noir Ceramic goes AMAZINGLY with the fashion-forward look, if I do say so myself!

We also loved Felicity’s ‘Mimco swan brooch poem and Silvia’s White t-shirt‘ entry, so we are sending you both a L’Oreal Paris Glam Shine.

A big shout out and thank you to L’Oreal Paris‘ Dorothy and Chanel‘s Luisa for their time to judge the entries and for donating such fabulous prizes.

Simply fabulous… It’s Top 10 Friday!

Toff it up for The Ashes with this tee and brooch, teamed with jeans and a blazerSass and Bide – A Pocketful of Dreams

What an exciting week! Tahnee won Australia’s Next Top Model (though Cassie got the judges vote), Project Runway Australia started and outed it’s first designer, The Ashes began… and finally, new season look books are starting to come to life with stock now arriving in store.

New seasons are great because you get the opportunity to explore. Most designers gradually introduce their range into the stores, so you can do a bit of style stalking without making rash decisions. I love planning which pieces will work with my wardrobe (and which ones I’ll need to buy a new one for).

I also love that there’s a general buzz of excitement from the sales crew about the new items. Often they’re wearing the soon-to-be-released pieces too – a tell tale sign of the great stuff coming in.

Quick Tip: During the sales check out the next season’s look books to make sure you’re not going to regret your purchases (nothing worse than wishing you had saved your money when the next season hits).

Here’s my Top 10 of what’s new this week:

1. Sportsgirl have developed a fabulous interactive website. In addition to showing off their range, they’ve got chat, music downloads and all-round fun. Have your say now

2. Souvenir Delirium II is in at Mimco. I call it modern old school, or old school modern – others might just call it mod

3. Sass and Bide‘s new range is as always truly fabulous. I’ve already been in three times this week. I love the simplicity of the Pocketful of Dreams tee, and that every season works collectively with the last

4. Project Runway Australia is back. It won’t be long before the claws are out

5. Rachel Zoe is willing to share her fashion and lifestyle tips in The Zoe Report – sign up now for updates from the Mistress of Style

6. Read Net-A-Porter’s interview with Roland Mouret - who shares three versatile ways to wear his Top Tunic Dress (TTD)

7. Hollywood’s latest denim obsession, Jet by John Eshaya is now available at Miijo

8. Bruno is out. At the cinemas (Ange and I are seeing it tonight – can’t wait)

9. The results of the Australia Beauty Awards 2009 are in.

10. Aesop release their first CD this month, Aesop 105 Minutes said to be their “respite from urban clamour”

Happy Friday!
