Tomorrow is already here thanks to Sass and Bide

So excited about Sass & Bide‘s latest collection, Tomorrow The Great.

The girls have taken a slight shift away from the heavy focus on hardware we’ve seen of late (which might I say I love love love) and embraced a strong contrast of blacks and whites.

The collection uses a mixture of stripes and patterns – combined with our fave hardware (don’t worry it’s still there) and touches of lace and sheer blacks.

These pieces will be great mixed and matched with previous collections, or with a base outfit of black and white.

I am totally in love with the tuxedo style City of Love jacket, whilst my friend Silvia loves the capelets which easily work with either day or night dressing.

What’s your favourite piece?

H-O-T Want: Winter Kate Nicole Richie opy jacket

I really want this Winter Kate by Nicole Richie opy jacket but can’t bring myself to pay $349 for it, despite the fact that it’s 100% vintage silk crepe.
Have been staring at it for months now. C’mon sales!!! This jacket needs to come to Mamma.

Maximise the Maxi Dress

All items from Sass & Bide (click image to enlarge) – Clockwise

The Taboo cropped jacket, 3 Strikes dress, Pocketful Of Dreams tee, I Will Wait For You tank

It’s no secret that I am a massive fan of Sass & Bide. I love their style, the ability to mix and match their clothes, and the different ways you can play around with them.

Take for example the maxi dress. As a shortie (152cm to be exact), maxi dresses are not something I thought I could, or would, ever wear. However, the fab girls at Sass & Bide showed me that this was not the case. And now, they’re one of my favourite summer staples to experiment with.

Sure Sass & Bide‘s dresses have ties, buttons and removable bits so you can make them shorter or change the look, but the principle can be applied to dresses from other designers. For example, simply knot both sides of the dress and voila, a long dress becomes shorter and more wearable (and no tripping over the dress on the escalator).

Another thing I have discovered is that it’s really easy to change the look of a maxi dress by wearing a plain black or white tee, or singlet, over the top and knotting it at the side. Alternatively, a loose (but short) light knit looks great too for those slightly cooler nights. Or, throw a denim vest over the top for a more casual look.

I managed to wear the same maxi dress three times in one week (I have no qualms wearing something repeatedly) – at the races, a mag launch and to the pub by applying this principle.

I also love wearing my short cowboy boots with a maxi dress. It gives a completely different look to sandals or heels.

The main rules are to break the rules… experiment, have fun and don’t be afraid to take risks.

Party sparkles from Sportsgirl

Totally loving these sequin jackets from Sportsgirl. Their super H-O-T, reasonably priced and perfect for adding a bit of bling to an otherwise simple outfit. Throw them on over your work clothes and you’re ready for Christmas drinks, or team them with a funky top and a pair of short shorts.

I love the first combination… reminds me of Ke$ha in the totally awesome ’80s do-over video clip for Tik Tok.

Vested interest

A change in season means it’s time to take a good hard look at what you’re wearing and what’s in the wardrobe. With so many exciting new looks and trends each season, we soon think it’s time to give the wardrobe a massive overhaul and throw everything out. But do we really have to? And, can we do it cost effectively?

My approach is take a look at the pieces I already own and then work out how I can adapt them to create my ‘must’ have looks.

Vests are great. They can take a simple outfit and turn them into something unique and special.

A simple white tee and denim skirt – teamed with a funky vest and necklace can create a look that is perfect for sunny afternoons at the pub, festivals, and catching up with friends. You can even mix and match the look with leggings, funky boots or a great pair of ‘roman-style’ sandles.

Voila – a simple, effective and H-O-T look – using an investment piece that works!

Warning, not all vests suit everyone – make sure you pick ones that sit just right around your bust line – some can make you look bigger, smaller or just plain silly. If you’re not sure, get the shop assistants to help, and be sure to try them on with your base outfit.

Good luck!
