excitement colours part 2: tickle me pink

Part two in my series on Edith Head’s aptly termed Excitement Colours, from her world-renowned book, How to Dress For Success. This post, Shocking Pink, which Edith calls “Schiaperelli’s gift to fashion excitement”.

Tickle Me Pink!

Shocking pink is not for everyone… yet this bold and intense colour is bound to capture everyone’s attention. Best suited to cooler skin tones (blue or pink undertones, pale white, yellowish or dark, brunettes and deep coloured eyes). So, if it’s not your shade… be the exception and accessorise!

excitement colours part 1: purple patch

In How to Dress for Success Edith Head eloquently enlightens us on ways we can… well… dress for success. In chapter seven of this popular book, Edith talks about the colours we can wear to suit our complexion and how we need to understand our colour aura (the colour of our eyes, complexion and hair). She also defines a range of colour groups, including, The Elegant Colours, The Young Colours, The Slimming Colours, The Excitement Colours, The Man-Pleasing Colours (men might be immediately attracted to red but they all wear blue. Single ladies, opt for blue), and The You Colours.

‘The Excitement Colours’ caught my attention because they’re fun and so very on trend right now! Edith says that they “never fail to get a second look.”

So with that in mind, I thought I’d do a series of posts on each of Edith’s excitement colours. Starting with purple in honour of Edith’s book.

Hope you enjoy!

Purple Patch!

Shades of purple, violet and lavender suit most colour auras – in particular fair to medium skin, blondes and brunettes.

Amethysts are said to be an extremely powerful and protective stone with strong healing, cleansing and spiritual powers. (The Crystal Bible, Judy Hall). They’re pretty too!

Power Friending – Amber Mac

Amber Mac knows how to make friends online (and in person). Do you?

While you may never meet some of your online friends face-to-face, they still expect you to follow the established norms of friendship: be authentic, reach out, listen. And don’t lie to your friends. These same rules apply online.

Check out Amber Mac’s book, Power Friending to discover how you can expand your online connections into lasting friendships.

What’s more, and what House of Turtle loves about Amber, is that she’s young, hip and H-O-T!

I love her Dexter inspired ‘Texter’ clip which launched Power Friending online. Check it for yourself now:

Amber Mac is in Australia this week as a keynote speaker for the Schmart marketing conference in Melbourne, Monday 4 April and Sydney, Wednesday 6 April. Follow the conversation on Twitter @getschmart #smc11

Lost your mojo? Influence it instead!

I lost my mojo today. Couldn’t find it anywhere. It wasn’t under the couch or in the cupboard. Rumour has it that it is out partying with other people’s mojos (apparently I am not the only one who lost their motivation today).

Whilst looking for my mojo, I saw my half-finished canvas and thought “Hey, maybe I should finish that!”

Really it’s just big blobs of paint. But, it is inspired by a Giambattista Valli dress I found in Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s book, Influence (page 237). It’s a great read… and it inspired me to stop looking for my mojo and do something instead.

Fait accompli!
